Snails, also called escargots, are small mollusks with spiral shells. Snails are known to move very slowly and leave trails of slime. Most snails have a soft tubular body,  muscular legs for locomotion, one or more  tentacles protruding from the head, and small eyes at the top or  base of the main stem.

The most distinguishing feature shared by all species  is the spiral wrap. A typical snail has a calcareous shell spirally wrapped around its central axis, the columella. Coils or whorls added later in life are generally larger than those added when the snail is young.
