A well-dressed beef tripe has a mild flavor and combines nicely with many other ingredients, especially aromatic elements such as onion, garlic, and different herbs.
Tripe appears in traditional dishes in nearly every country in the world, in everything from entrees to cold salads and soups. It contains a significant amount of vitamin B-12, calcium, and important minerals such as selenium and zinc.
Tripe's texture is similar to that of meat, and it has a similar taste to that of veal or beef. Tripe has a mild flavor that makes it easy to incorporate into your recipes without overpowering them. It can be prepared in a wide variety of ways, and is often used as an entree or side dish.
To begin, prepare the base of the stew by adding red bell pepper, scotch bonnets, onions and plum tomatoes to a blender and blend until smooth.
Heat vegetable oil in a pot, enough to cover the base of the pot. Once it is hot, pour in the blended tomatoes and bring it to a boil.
Now season the stew. Add chicken cubes, thyme, salt to taste, tomato puree and chicken stock. Stir thoroughly, then simmer for 10-15 minutes.
When the stew is nearly ready, add pre-cooked assorted meats, such as chicken, beef and tripe. Cook for another 7 to 10 minutes on low/medium heat.
After the stew has cooked, allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving it. This will give the flavors time to meld together.

Frozen beef tripe is a food product made from cow stomach lining that has been cleaned, sliced and packaged in blocks.
When you buy frozen beef/ox tripe products in their frozen state, they need to be thawed before using them for cooking purposes. The best way to thaw frozen shaki is overnight in the refrigerator.
Selenium is an important nutrient for human health, and tripe is a good source of this mineral.
Studies have shown that selenium is a vital constituent of your body's signaling and defense systems, and that adequate dietary intake has been linked to a reduced risk of certain heart conditions, arthritis, and infertility.
We try our best to make sure that our shaki is always available to buy, that’s why we work with UK local farmers to make sure that it is readily available for purchase for you. However, if this is a product you would never want to miss out on, we recommend you should always go for the subscription option.
