Herb Roasted Turkey

If you're looking for a tasty and healthy way to roast your turkey this year, look no further than the herb-roasted method. By seasoning your turkey with fresh herbs before cooking, you'll be treated to a moist and flavourful dinner that your guests are sure to love.


How to cook Herb Roasted Turkey

Ingredients

  • 1 turkey (12 to 14 pounds)
  •  Crushed garlic and ginger
  • Chopped fresh rosemary leaves
  • Chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Butter

Directions

  • If your pound turkey is frozen, you might want to bring it out at least four days before you want to prepare it to thaw it—it takes three to four days for a pound turkey to properly thaw.
  • After you are sure your pound turkey is properly thawed, remove the neck of the turkey from its cavity. Tie the legs of the turkey with a string in the kitchen. Fold the end of the turkey's wings under the bird, and remove the internal organ sack.
  • Once you have prepared the turkey for coating, put your chopped herbs (rosemary and thyme), salt, ground black pepper, crushed ginger and garlic, and butter into a food processor so it mixes properly.
  • When the mixing is done, coat your turkey all around, every inch, so every part of the turkey is seasoned properly. After coating the turkey with butter, put it in an ultra-high temperature oven to make it brown. This step will give you that amazing deep golden skin. Then lower the temperature and cook the turkey.
  • After a while, cover the turkey with foil so it does not brown quickly and is cooked all the way through. Return to the oven, but seasonally check the internal temperature of the turkey using a thermometer—the minimum temperature should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit. To check the correct temperature of the turkey, put a thermometer into the thickest part of the breast and thighs.

Once you have ascertained that the turkey is cooked through, bring it out for dressing, and then serve.

 

Things to note when preparing herb-roasted turkey

Always make sure that the temperature of the oven is reduced while the turkey is being roasted. This enables it to cook thoroughly, inside out.

Make sure it is also well coated, as it ensures the turkey has the maximum flavour for eating.

When checking the temperature of the turkey, avoid the bones because they will give an inaccurate temperature. Always aim for the thickest fleshy part, and that can be found in the thighs and breasts especially.

How to cook Turkey Enchiladas

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 large sliced yellow onion
  • Garlic, chopped
  • Jalal Penos, seeded and sliced thinly
  • Can of enchilada sauce
  • Small yellow corn tortilla
  • Cooked shredded turkey or leftover turkey
  • Can of pinto beans, drain, and rinse.
  • Finely chopped Monterey Jack, split
  • Sour cream
  • Kosher salt
  • Coriander leaves and soft stems
  • Collapsed Cotija
  • Roasted pepita

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan over medium to high heat. Add onions, garlic, and jalapenos and simmer for five minutes until the onions are tender. Add the enchilada sauce and simmer for about 8 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Heat the 6 tablespoons more oil over medium to high heat until hot. Use tongs to soak each tortilla in hot oil and cover it with oil until it is supple. No need to colour (this makes it easier to roll!). Place it on a plate lined with paper towels until you are ready to use it. In a medium-sized bowl, mix turkey, pinto beans, and 2 cups of Monterey Jack. Add 1 cup of enchilada sauce and a three-quarter cup of sour cream, mix, and season with salt.
  • In a large casserole dish, place one and one-quarter cups of enchilada sauce and spread evenly over the base. Place a small bowl of turkey mixture in the centre of the tortilla, then roll it up and place it in a bowl of enchilada sauce with the seams down. Repeat with the remaining tortillas. Spread the remaining enchilada sauce up and sprinkle with a half cup more of Monterey Jack.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese foams and melts. Then decorate with coriander, cotija, and pepita and serve with sour cream.

 

Things to note when preparing Turkey Enchiladas

Leftover turkey is a great option for this dish; it has the right seasonings and the right juiciness and texture.

You might also want to save some sauce for later, in case it is needed.


Why you should eat Turkey Enchiladas

This dish is healthy and satisfying because turkey is lean meat, and the vegetables give extra nutrients. Also, it is cooked in the oven, not fried, meaning less cholesterol.


Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

This recipe uses ground turkey instead of beef, so it's lower in calories and cholesterol. It also includes beans, corn, tomatoes, and spices, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer to eat healthily.

How to cook Slow Cooker Turkey Chilli

Ingredients

  • Ground turkey
  • Brown sugar
  • Ginger and garlic powder
  • Pepper
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • Kidney beans
  • Black beans
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Tomato sauce
  • Green chillies
  • Cumin
  • Chilli powder
  • Onions

Directions

  • Put the oil in the pan over medium heat. Put the turkey in the pan and cook until it is evenly brown. Then drain. Apply a cooking spray to the inside of the slow cooker and mix with the turkey, tomato soup, diced tomatoes, green beans, black beans, and onions. Season with chilli powder, pepper, green chillies, garlic powder, brown sugar, cumin, peppercorn, all spices, and salt, then cover and cook low for 8 hours and high for 4 hours. When it is ready, serve with tortillas, avocado, or rice.

 

Things to note when preparing Slow Cooker Turkey Chilli

You can swap some of the ingredients with other substitutes: ground turkey for leftover turkey, kidney and black beans for canned beans, and you can even leave out the brown sugar. You can also add some veggies to add finesse, texture, and taste to the dish.


Why you should eat Slow Cooker Turkey Chilli

It is a healthy dish. It is packed with so many nutrients, and it can be eaten alone with toppings or as a side dish.
